Piston Rings
CECO can suggest the proper piston ring material and design for your most demanding application. Our engineering department maintains detailed specifications, proven case histories, and years of experience on reciprocating compressors.
CECO piston rings are machined to close tolerances to create a positive seal. For low-pressure differentials, including vacuum applications, we recommend using an imbedded round wire expander to ensure contact of the piston ring against the cylinder wall. Please consult with a CECO sales representative for recommendations on the most appropriate piston ring design for your operating conditions.
We maintain a large inventory of raw material stock available for quick turnaround. You can depend on CECO to meet your delivery needs and exceed performance requirements.

Rider Bands
In addition to piston rings, CECO offers a complete line of rider bands, manufactured to meet your application requirements - in the materials you need. Typically used to prevent piston-to-cylinder contact, CECO rider bands, manufactured of high quality blended Resilon-T™; outperform other ring materials for use in both lubricated and non-lubricated service.
Like piston rings, rider bands are available with straight, angle or step cut gaps, in one-piece, two-piece and multi-piece configurations. Cut rider bands are manufactured with side relief grooves, another CECO standard. CECO rider bands are also available as solid, uncut rings for an interference fit in the rider band groove for use in applications where rider bands might encounter valve ports or counter bores.
Multiple Band Assemblies
A three-piece assembly consists of two outer bands, with either straight or angle cuts, assembled on a common inner ring or expander wide enough to accommodate both outer bands. This assembly provides effective sealing in both directions. These unidirectional multiple sealing rings provide high-performance sealing at pressures typical of polyethylene compressors.
The assembly is made up of a single straight-cut ring and a two-piece band composed of an inner and outer band both normally straight cut. The inner band functions as both an expander and gap seal for the outer band.
Installation of Solid Rider Bands
Solid rider bands are machined with interference fit so that, once expanded over the piston end, they contract like a rubber band providing a snug fit on the piston. Unlike piston rings which must move freely in their grooves to seal, rider bands are literally stretched in order to slide them over the end of the piston and into the rider groove.
For easier installation, CECO furnishes rider bands which are pre-stretched, mounted on groove-locked expanders to fit over the piston head. Once in the ring groove, Resilon-T's natural elastic memory causes the ring to contract to its original dimensions. Unstretched rider bands are also available for force-fit installation over a piston head.
